Capital Campaign

GodSpace Logo

The goal of the Godspace Capital Campaign is to raise $1.9 million to renovate Highlands and make it more accessible and welcoming. Over 200 Highlands families have been visited during the past few months and over $1.5 million have been pledged.

From July to October, 2007, over 200 Highlands families were visited by pairs of visitors who shared their vision of Highlands United Church. Local businesses were invited to support the renovations in November. Community groups that meet at the church are being contacted in spring 2008.

Background

On April 15th, Highlands United Church held a congregational meeting to discuss the possibility of a capital campaign to undertake repairs and renovations to the existing building. The following decisions were made at that meeting:

  • That HUC proceed immediately with a three-year Capital Campaign with a goal of raising a minimum of $1.9 million.
  • That the chairs of the Campaign Committee be Bob Brown, Ken Irwin, and Tanis van Drimmelen.
  • That the Congregation authorize the Building Feasibility Committee to develop a detailed proposal for the next building phase giving high priority to three-floor accessibility and general upgrading based on the amount of money raised in the Capital Campaign for the approval of the congregation.
  • That the Building Feasibility Committee be authorized to proceed with essential building projects in the summer of 2007 consisting of:
    - Remaining exterior painting
    - Major rot repair in the 1964 Building Envelope
    - These projects not to exceed $50,000.
  • That the congregation contract with Rob Waller to facilitate the Capital Campaign and that Greg Lewis and Bob Brown be authorized to negotiate and sign this contract.
