DaffodilsFlea Market

An annual event held the Saturday following Thanksgiving every October, the Flea Market marks Highlands United Church as a recycling and reusing centre in the community. Sorting donations happens throughout the year on Tuesday mornings. The sale raises between $25,000 and $35,000 so it takes many hands to make it happen. Contact Chris Robertson or Jonathan Maillie through the Church Office (604-980-6071) for regular Flea Market activities.

Highlands’ Library

Highlands Church Library is open on a self-serve basis whenever the church is open. On Sunday the library is staffed before the service; some Sundays a library display table is set up at Coffee Hour. You can borrow books for 3 weeks and videos for 1 week. You’ll find:

Thursday Community Meals

Thursday evenings are wonderfully energetic at Highlands. Family logistical planning on this evening is an art, especially with many kids and parents participating in one of our four choirs. Each Thursday evening we offer a hearty, simple, family-friendly meal between 5:30 and 6:30pm, and all are welcome. The cost for this meal is $5/person or $15/family. If you would like to help with Thursday Community Meals, talk to Colleen Blair.

Sunday Lunches

About once  month, we offer a delicious lunch after church. Bring yourself or your whole family. Volunteers start at 9:00 am to prepare lunch, set up tables and chairs, and create a welcoming ambiance. $5/person or a $20/family donation covers expenses. Get involved by joining the team that prepares the lunch or the clean-up crew. Who knew doing the dishes could be this much fun? Want to know more? Contact Colleen Blair.

Guitar for Fun

Always wanted to learn to play guitar? Join Stephen Molnar Monday evenings at 7 pm for beginner guitar get-togethers. You’ll learn enough to play at the Family Christmas Concert in December!

Birthday Celebrations

After the 10 am Sunday service, come to the Fireside Room for cake and celebration during your birthday month (or save it up till the following month). A great way to meet others! The candles are lit from the Christ Candle to represent that the blessing of Christ continues through the blessing of each person alive—light coming from light. Watch for dates in the weekly Highlights newsletter.
