“The one who eats this bread will live forever.”
What does that even mean?
Sometimes it feels like we have church life and “real” life, doesn’t it? Like the things Jesus says make sense inside the walls of the sanctuary, but they don’t translate to the lives we live “out there.” When we leave on Sunday to head out for lunch or shopping or back home, it can feel like we are in a different world and what seemed so easy to follow in church, seems less easy now.
In the passage we’ll explore this Sunday Jesus also says “the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” So … what he says is all we need to live, to thrive, and to be nourished?
How do we draw on those words when we’re holding a grudge, when our friend says goodbye, when all the news is bad, when we feel helpless to solve anything, when we walk by the same hungry person every morning, when we get yelled at for no reason, when we worry unduly, when we don’t know how to live with our grief, when we don’t believe in ourselves, when greed and power seem like the only models of success?
“This is the bread that came down from heaven.”
Let’s spend Sunday exploring how words like these can actually make a difference in every single one of our decisions, feelings and actions in the “world out there.”
See you in church!
Julie.
PS: I’m not saying we’ll solve it, just that we’ll explore it!!
