Minister’s Musing June 6,2025

Bewildered. Amazed. Astonished. Perplexed.

These are the words used by Luke to describe what folks were feeling on that regular ol’ day of Pentecost in Jerusalem oh so long ago.

What made that day of Pentecost so different? Could it have been the recent ascension of Jesus? Or the particular mixture of people who had gathered that year? Or perhaps it was the rush of “a violent” wind felt by everyone, or the tongues of flame that rested on everyone.

How unique would that have been?

Astonishing. Perplexing.

It feels like something Spirit filled could happen in church this Sunday. Encounters with the Holy, hearts set aflame. And why not? Who says being astonished and amazed by the Creator is only allowed in bible stories?

There is a lot stirring right now – globally and locally – more so than usual.

What might make this day of Pentecost in Edgemont Village so different? Might it be the 100th anniversary of the church? Or over 100 people gathering to know each other over beautifully prepared tea? Or perhaps the recent losses of a few beloved community members? Or, the physical changes to the building? Perhaps the anticipatory excitement about camp?

How unique might this Pentecost be?

Astonishing. Perplexing.

It feels like something Spirit filled could happen in church this Sunday.

See you there!
