What are we going to talk about on Sunday?

The apocalypse: what the book of Revelation says and what the book means. Hah. How presumptuous!! As if we can sort that out in less than a lifetime!

  • - (because it is a book about what was, what is and what will be)
  • - (because it depends on what we currently see and don’t see)
  • - (because what we see changes over time … just like the world changes over time … and yet we repeat the same patterns … but we change with each repetition … so we’re back to square one … but we’re not …)
  • - (because, of course, God is involved, throwing curve balls and keeping us on our toes)

The world apocalyptic means to reveal; to uncover. So, we read apocalyptic literature in the hopes of seeing, or understanding, our earthly circumstances in a new way. It is written to give us hope sometimes, and other times to challenge or urge us to change.

The Book of Revelation asks us to examine the reality in which we live. Have we grown so comfortable living in the world around us that we can no longer SEE the world we are to truly LIVE in?

On Sunday we’ll try to explore some of the common traits of apocalyptic literature in order to see our options and choose where we want to live.

(I’m excited and tired already)

See you Sunday,

Julie.
