Do you ever wonder what our hearts are made of? I mean really made of. Not flesh and blood, but the fortitude of our hearts.
There are moments that leave me speechless. Moments when I wonder how our hearts just don’t explode under the pressure, the grief and the joy.
Just think about your day yesterday, or your week last week. How often was your heart called upon to rally, to hold you up one more time, to beat to a new, perhaps more expansive, drum?
I know: What does this have to do with Zacchaeus or Remembrance Day or a Thriving Faith campaign? Well, everything.
Not only did Zacchaeus decide to change his life, but Jesus knew in his heart to look up. Not only do we mourn the people who sacrificed so much on our behalf but we make room in our hearts for the folks who continue to do that today. Not only do we live in the experience of Highlands United Church today but we bloat our hearts with the hope filled future of God in this place decades from now.
Our hearts – the mysterious, Spirit filled matter of our hearts – surprises us, holds us and keeps us alive with hope every single day.
I’m just kind of in awe right now.
See you Sunday.
Julie.
