I’m so excited for this Sunday! It’s the start of the Theological Banquet (Janet Gear’s book “Undivided Love”). Just visualize that – a THEOLOGICAL BANQUET! Who cares how big the shrimp are on a cruise ship midnight buffet, we have a theological banquet on our hands. Wow.
For me the notion of a theological banquet conjures up great hope. A banquet provides us with choice, with abundance, with community and conviviality. A banquet allows us to try new things, experiment, have a taste. A banquet lets us observe what other people are putting on their plate, what their favourites are.
Years ago at BC Conference (before we became a region) Janet led us through the five theologies of the church. Over the course of a few days we all gained a deeper understanding of what our own theology was, and a greater appreciation for the diverse theologies of our colleagues.
As Will and I have been planning this series we both have expressed a deep desire and hope and excitement that as a community of faith we renew our passion in who we are, what we do and how we serve; and we grow in our confidence to shout this deep faith from the mountaintops.
